About Us

Gina Lopez

Gina has been performing musically since she was 16, first playing requinto and vihuela and singing in her family’s band, Mariachi Lopez, and later with two of her sisters in The Latin Trio, in which she also sings and plays lead guitar.  The Latin Trio plays traditional Mexican music, other styles of Latin music (salsa, cumbia, bolero, etc.), country, pop, and classic oldies (rock and roll).  She has also written several original songs for The Latin Trio.

Gina has been a teacher for several years, but is currently an Instructor of Bilingual Education/Teaching English as a Second Language and Coordinator of a federally-funded professional development project at the University of Central Oklahoma.

Ed Cunliff

Ed is a multi-instrumentalist playing guitar, mandolin and occasionally strumming the old banjo.  He has played and performed traditional music since he was a teenager.  He has taught beginning guitar and currently teaches beginning mandolin for the Oklahoma City Traditional Music Association.  Ed repairs and builds mandolins and guitars and especially enjoys bringing back to life the old family instruments that have been left in closets for years – a real challenge!

Ed is also currently the Assistant Vice-President of Academic Affairs at the University of Central Oklahoma.

April Haulman

The one with virtually no musical training, April feels privileged to be considered a part of the group.  She was recruited by Ed and Gina to add some rhythmic percussion. Although reluctant (because she knows her limitations), she joins in with some unusual instruments and a little (very little) back-up singing.  April also illustrated the coloring/songbook and contributed many ideas to the activity book.

Professionally, April is a Professor and Coordinator of Bilingual Education/Teaching English as a Second Language Program at the University of Central Oklahoma.
